Berlin Kreuzberg
BERLIN - BEST RESTAURANTS, HIPPEST NIGHTCLUBS & TOP HOTELS
Introduction
Berlin is reborn and a galvanic force in European and world affairs. The capital of Germany is cool, creative, inexpensive, full of energy and of exeptional landmarks like the Brandenburger Gate, the Victory Column, Checkpoint Charlie, Alexanderplatz, Bellevue Palace, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the metal-and-glass Reichstag and the neue Nationalgalerie. The area of Kreuzberg-
Friedrichshain was an isolated section of West Berlin located south of "Mitte" and enclosed by three sides; the famous Oberbaumbruecke linked the east part (Friedrichshain) with the west part of Kreuzberg.
It was one of the poorest areas in Berlin and developed its own culture and became the main target of immigrants - nowadays Kreuzberg is home to the biggest Turkish community in Germany. Kreuzberg is also called “little Istanbul”. The inhabitants call their “Kiez” (area) lovely “downtown”. Kreuzberg became to one of Berlin's cultural centers with great restaurants a and magnet for celebrities like German actor Till Schweiger which discovered the beauty of this dstrict.
Berlin is a legendary haven for those that dare to explore the afterdark and a vibrant culinary scene. Visitors in the mass come to savour the intoxicating mix of the old and the new. Locals generally have that laid-back "I'm-a-Bernalista" attitude so rather leave the buttoned shirt and razor at home, and bring your trendiest scar. Favourite note: there are no closing hours by law which means you need to carry your sunglasses at all times. Flying in the face of stuffy German stereotypes, famously liberal and fun-loving Berlin has long been a magnet for pleasure-seekers.
Berlin ist the real city that never sleeps.

E.T.A. HOFFMANN
Here in Kreuzberg is E.T.A. Hoffmann buried, not far from the restaurant that bears his name; however, the restaurant "E.T.A. HOFFMANN" is a solid culinary size in Kreuzberg, not overly "verkünstelt", but also not down to earth; the menu is quite ambitious; the interior of the premises is cleaned up, sober; all in all, a restaurant in the upscale category with not quite detached prices and very good food; In summer there is a terrace in the courtyard; open from 5pm, closed on Tuesday

WELTRESTAURANT MARKTHALLE
Unpretentious restaurant and bar, with big chunky tables and wood paneled walls gives you the real Berlin feeling; in the German capital it could happen that you eat until 2am because it is so "gemuetlich"; the food is good for good value, specialities are: "Spätzle" (boiling small lumps of dough made from flour and eggs) with roasted cubes of bacon" or "Schnitzel Wiener Art with roasted potatoes"; in the basement is a private club where Pop-Art events, concerts and exhibitions are hosted; if you get hungry in the early morning take a cab and tell the driver "Kurzstrecke" (2 km cost Eur 5.-) and have the world-famous curry wurst at "CURRY 36"
