Introduction
Beirut, the former "Pearl of the Middle East", is located on the Mediterranean coastline. It is Lebanon's centre point for economy with its main street Hamra, Rue Monot in Ashrafieh, Rue Gouraud and Verdun where a lot of banks and corporate firms are based. Lebanon is the most cosmopolitan and vibrant city in the Middle East, with great Lebanese restaurants like Abdelwahab el Inglizi or numerous excellent French restaurants and excellent nightlife. In recent times Beirut is also known for a growing fashion industry with its fashion designers Abed Mahfouz and Elie Saab who created the oscar dress for Halle Berry in 2002.
